Sapphire High Reflectivity Laser Mirrors

Sapphire high reflector has excellent mechanical and optical properties. It is strong and resistant to high hot and cold shocks. The surface is coated with an all-dielectric highly reflective film, which can achieve a reflectivity of more than 99.9%. It is usually used as a reflector in high-power lasers or systems.

Characteristics of sapphire high reflectivity laser mirror substrates

A high-quality sapphire high reflectivity laser mirror must use a laser-grade sapphire single crystal (Al2O3) as the substrate. There are no impurities, no inclusions, no bubbles, no birefringence inside the crystal. It is then precision cut, ground and deep CMP to complete a sapphire optical substrate with a precise profile, excellent surface quality, and surface flatness. The non-working surface of the sapphire high reflectivity laser mirror can be polished or finely ground.

Features of the coating of sapphire high reflectivity laser mirrors

Traditional high reflectivity coatings are multilayer films composed of high refractive index and low refractive index materials of 1/4 optical thickness of a specific wavelength. By increasing the number of layers, the reflectivity can exceed 99.9% or even higher. All optical films are plated in ultra-clean environments and ultra-high vacuum conditions. High reflectivity coating has the characteristics of low absorption, low scattering, and high laser damage threshold.
